From little I know (from someone working in a car dealership), cars handed in 'in exchange' have to be physically destroyed by a scrap merchant, for car sales to get certificate of scrapping, showing how much and of what material was recovered from the car. I guess, this means that poor cars cannot ...

What I can't understand: a car has to have a valid MOT to qualify for the scrappage scheme. That makes it a roadworthy vehicle! Does it not?! So, even a bit too early for it to become even a donor or a pile of spares. Really angers me, seeing classics being presented for scrappage scheme, only to bu...

If the problem started after replacing the pulley it may well be a coincedence. Pulley should not affect timing. Timing marks on Minor are on the crank pulley (a notch) and the static part (three v-shaped pointers) of it is below that pulley. To check with strobe timing light you need to connect the...

Spark plug core that runs between the top (HT lead connector) and the electrode at the bottom can break up - completely or partially. Sometimes due to wear and tear in use or impacts during packing and delivery. Also, a dead plug may well work in normal atmosferic pressure, but fail at high pressure...

Glad ou got it sorted! Once I bought a brand new set of plugs (NGK) for my BMWK75 bike, which has been stood for a while. Normally it has been very good starting after a long 'break'. That time - no go! Plugs appeared to spark when removed. Very odd I thought. Long story short (after I nearly went f...

Oh, and while on the topic of workshop facilities - scarpyard of PC bits available - in case one dies without warning! I will be happy to help any memebers with their PC as that's what I enjoy doing and also do as a part-time trade. If there are any owners of any VW-based vehicles (petrol or diz) an...

Thanks Rob! I know the Mog you mean, but it is not mine. I'm at Hammonds Lane and mine is a 2-door. Same colour though. Looking forward to meeting the local Mog crew. What day/time are you off to Ropley? Maybe I can pop over and help. Can take Audi Estate if space needed for tools/more crew members....

Anti Root kit is OK, but even the AVG Antivirus scans the PC's boot sector and registry. All files are scanned 'on access' - before they are even opened. So should do the job. I must agree with Dan Harris - I found using Ubuntu Linux much more peaceful from a few years back. No worries about viruses...

Air circulation must be the key. I had my Moggy covered up with water-proof tarp for most part of 3 months - carpets were absolutely soaked when I go it in it, condensation runinng down the inside of the windscreen and dash. So I removed the wet carpets and dried them out of the car, dried up floor ...

I might have cracked it with your help! Found slide was not dropping all the way down even with the damper rod out. So, with a torch and a couple of spanners re-centered it. Now drops down with a lovely 'clonk'. Re-tuned the carb best possible. Quick thrash around the car park - seems to accelerate ...

Float chamber is dead upright. Checked needle valve with 1 lung power - it does close fully. By the way, it is a plastic type, so not sure if this is the same size as the original brass one would have been. The float fitted is like here: http://www.burlen.co.uk/partDetail.aspx?partID=3274 How do you...

Carb needle sizes
For 2 years that I had the old 1098 I could not set the carbs properly - mixture all over the place, revs either too high or too low, etc. It is a standard, later type carb, from what I can tell. Took the needle out: Marking I could make out: AN. Is this the right one for the standard fit? I've neve...

But these are only safety-related imrovements...honest.... Large tyres give you better grip for improved braking and cornering, more engine power make it easier to keep up with the modern traffic speeds and to get out of 'iffy' sutuations. Tried telling my bike and car insurers that - for some reaso...
