Anyone in the area would be able to come over and see my moggy and give me some pointers on getting it going on the way towards an MOT. I am not asking someone to do the work for me, just asking the experience you all have to point me in the right direction
Biker bits, you are welcome to join us one evening, we are not normally very far from Totton in our choice of pub. If you are not on the road and want a lift let us know sure one of us could swing by and collect you. As you can see from the conversation, we are heading out to Ropley this week to help disassemble one of our members car as a doner for a new shell but after that we will be back to normal pub trips. Keep reading this thread and feel free to message one of us for details. Hope to meet you soon. Where abouts in totton are you? I know I've seen a blue 4 door parked on the street a few times, not far down from the level crossing and sweet shop?
Darren, I'm sure one or more of us could find some time to pop over and give you a hand, especially if all you want is some advice, plenty of that between us all (not going to judge the quality of it ;-) ) Perhaps if you post when you are about we can see who among us could pop over for a tea and quick once over?

I am generally available 5pm onwards like most working bods, but lighting is an issue still this time of year, but lamps can be rubbed to create some light!! Other than that, all day at weekends. Tea plentiful at my house. I will be travelling overseas for 2 weeks on 16th Feb.
Thanks Rob!
I know the Mog you mean, but it is not mine. I'm at Hammonds Lane and mine is a 2-door. Same colour though. Looking forward to meeting the local Mog crew.
What day/time are you off to Ropley? Maybe I can pop over and help. Can take Audi Estate if space needed for tools/more crew members.
If anyone needs a hand - always welcome, just shout. No space in the garage to work in (project Minor taking up all the space), but there's plenty on the drive. All the usual tools are available & MIG with Y-size bottle. Warm kettle to provide the warmth.
Oh, and while on the topic of workshop facilities - scarpyard of PC bits available - in case one dies without warning! I will be happy to help any memebers with their PC as that's what I enjoy doing and also do as a part-time trade.
If there are any owners of any VW-based vehicles (petrol or diz) and need a hand - please feel free to ask, I have experence working on them, as well as the full PC-based diagnostics kit and manuals.
VW dont get us started on those one of our little happy group is going nuts on beetles just now
as for PC help I think half of us are already way too technical and geeky along those lines ;-) but you never know when another PC nut might help.
we did our Ropley trip and Maude is now but a shell of her former self (photos soon I hope Paul, email me if you need a hand with them)
we meet every Thursday at 8 at a pub somewhere? so pays to check this thread during Thursday or sometimes we even manage to decide by Wednesday where we are going!
we can try and get an early decision for next week (if you can slip away on valentines day?) also feel free to chuck in some pub ideas good parking, real ale and fairly quiet is about the balance we like.
hope to meet you soon!

help! can't believe this nice trip out to see Darren got all the way home... short by 200 yards and had to be pushed into the garage broke a half shaft ;-(
Will order some toughened ones and will need a hand to change them ASAP as need the car for the French trip coming up soon.

Changing the halfshafts is the easy bit... get the plusgas on the bolts holding the propshaft too the diff and the diff to the axle casing on now ;)
Probably a good idea to buy 5L or so of thinners (or your chosen substance) to clean all the shards of metal there will inevitably be in the diff and axle casing...
Its not a hard job, you just need to make sure everything is properly cleaned before you put it back together
hummm thanks for offer matt/dan but really need the toughened ones as she is a 1275 so puts more stress through the back
question if you break a half shaft do you get any noise? because it failed totally silently, pulling away down hill, and is whisper silent when i put her in gear and let the prop turn (only just long enough to see the problem dont want to churn up the muck) I'm hoping that it is the sharfts and not something in the diff (assuming thats not likely to fail) is there anyway to guess at this before i start? otherwise might be wanting a 'spare' 422 diff on hand as once i start the job I have to finish it
oh well these things happen, will gather what bits i can and prepare a day, hope someone can give me a hand (even just to roll her out the garage)
oh and much to colin and my surprise Darren has quite a tidy lowlight with side valve engine! and here was me just thinking it would be just another 2 door mog. hope our advice gives him a good start and he can get it firing up soon.
