For thinning hamerite I use 'Industrial Thinner' which can be purchased from any good automotive paint factors at about £15 for 5l. It is xylene based like hammerite which thins the paint without loss of finish. I clean my spray gun with cheap cellulose thinners.

Is that no weetabix before driving the traveller then?
There might just be enough room for me to drill and tap the coupling for another bolt onto the cable.

Pull starter solenoid connection

I'm having problems with my pull start solenoid connection behind the dash. I set it up so it works well but over 20 - 30 starts the steel cable slips so that the car no longer starts. I can't tighten the lock screw up any more than I am doing already. Has anybody had a similar problem and found a n...

Comma Oils do a SAE 30, SAE 40 and 20W50 oil for classic cars at a reasonable price (www.commaoil.com). My manual states SAE 30 also although the preference within this site does seem to be 20W50 which does have a wider temperature tolerance and a longer life (in the engine).

I,ve got a Clarke 205TE which has worked faultlessly through many jobs including building a horsebox. They have an extensive range and if you buy from Machine Mart ask about VAT free days, they have them about four times a year (invitation only) and as the name suggests you save 17.5% . :D

I've used the Frost Bright Zinc plating kit on a tractor restoration that I'm doing and the results were disappointing to say the least. The kit is quite expensive for the small amount of zinc / chemicals that you get. In the end I managed to pick up some chemicals (zinc chloride + ammonium chloride...

The copy of the microfiche for the Morris 1000 shows three part numbers for the tank sender. In order of production they are :- ARA 957, 17H 732 and ARA 976. Seems to suggest ARA 957 prior to body number 487049. Then moving to 17H 732 until body number 1082280. ARA976 on cars 1082281 onwards. Hope t...

I've tried 6ba which is too small and 4ba which is too large. In desperation I got out a micrometer and measured the bolt. The outside diameter including screw thread is 0.1225 inches and there are 40 threads per inch. I thought it might equate to 1/8 UNF but I cant find a specification for that. An...

Fuel Tank Sender Nut Size

Came to fit one of the old type senders to my traveller today - going back to the bronze type gauge - and found that the nut to attach the cable was missing. Anybody know what size / thread the nut is?

Cheers

Thanks Roger I'll look at routing it down the A post, that only leaves the problem of removing the headlining. :(

Trafficator Wiring

Anyone know the routing that the trafficator wiring takes from the switch to the trafficators? I'm putting mine back on and the wires have been removed. I'm presuming they drop down the B post but do they run inside the sill or under the car?

Does the carpet go over the hinge where it attaches to the body and under the hinge where it attaches to the seat base?

Traveller carpets

I've bought a set of carpets which I'm trying to fit. The only section which puzzles me is the section which attaches to the vertical face under the rear seat. If I place the carpet piece on the floor the top of the carpet is about an inch above the top of the vertical face of metal. Also attached t...

Thanks for the photo, I don't think I'll need any measurements. There is a faint outline of the slot where the filler hasn't been feathered in well and it looks more or less identical in proportion to that shown in the photo. :D

Traveller trafficator slot

I have a '61 traveller which the previous owner has removed the trafficators and fibreglassed the slots from where they came. I would like to put them back but its not immediately obvious whether any metal has been removed. The outline of the slots looks about right but having looked at photos of sa...

If you disconnected the arm in the gearbox and now the wipers are parking at the opposite end of the cycle it would suggest that you put the arm back on 180 degrees from where you took it off.

Thanks, I need to check but I'm assuming the previous owner changed the tank sender for the later one when changing the speedo. I am looking around for the old type of sender to replace it.
