We failed a Traveller on wipers as they wouldn't move on a dry screen but everything else was good. The owner tried to convince us 'they were all like that' bless her!

That seems a bit harsh, it's hardly a safety issue that wipers don't move when it's not raining. :-?

It can't have been easy for her to know exactly what the problem was without giving it away and making you feel silly. The paranoia in me now wonders if all women have enormous amounts of in-depth mechanical knowledge but make men believe they have none, just to avoid breaking their nails unde...

Re: Seat webbing

Cheers Panky. The cable tie idea was good. I have sore hands now but it worked fairly well. I know what the tearing noise was now, it was the stitching around the hooks! I just hope they hold out. I actually broke 3 cable ties doing this job, not that I'm Hercules or anything but definitely made of ...

It's in the off-topic section Les so surely it's OK to have the discussion here, even if it has been double-boring so far.

Re: Football well done England.

Typical optimism from the England faithful, watching some of the best players we've ever had perform so woefully under the games' luckiest ever manager, and STILL thinking we'll turn the Swiss over. :) :tu1:

Re: Seat webbing

Just started my first seat restoration and the new straps appear to be about half an inch too short. As I pull the straps to try and locate the clips I can hear them tearing. I know they should be tight but this is taking the wee wee. I now wonder whether I can soften them somehow to make them more ...

Re: Bottom end rebuild

Sounds like you're a pretty capable chap and so doing the other stuff will make the time and money you spent worthwhile. The trouble is, when you change all the other stuff at the same time, you probably wonder if the main bearing was really the culprit in the first place. :D Good that you have it s...

I've seen paint brushing used to really good effect in the following video. There are a few on YT well worth watching.

Bought the wife a Pug for Christmas.

Despite the squashed nose, bulging eyes and rolls of fat, the dog seems to like her!

Re: Unknown grill part

Thanks, that's really useful to know that they can still be bought new. I'm going to clean up the one I have and re-use it. I know it's not original but so much of my car is like that so I'm not going to be particular about it. Having a fresh air vent would be ideal anyway, how did it look before th...

Re: Unknown grill part

Thank you for that. I am not surprised that it's a replacement, not original to my car but it does look as if it'll clean up and if they're difficult to get hold of, I'll clean it up and use it again. I have a new front plate/grill already.

Unknown grill part

I've split the parts of the grill yesterday and then looked up the cost of new parts, before deciding whether I will attempt repair or restore on existing parts. I found everything except the part shown below at ESM. Is it something that is just rare or is it a custom part? Where the starter handle ...

Re: Octane value in the sixties

I don't think 3-star fuel is the same as E10 is it?

The old star rating would have contained lead for a start. I'm not sure whether they also contained ethanol back then though.
