Re: ignition warning light
It proved to be a wiring mix-up problem, now fixed, thanks for all your input.

Re: ignition warning light
I would add that, with the ignition switched off, the right -hand coil in the voltage regulator engages automatically when the battery is connected. Thinking that the old regulator must be faulty, I replaced it with a brand new one, but the same still happens. Voltage is obviously still going throug...

Re: ignition warning light
There are no visible markings on the alternator to indicate the manufacturer, only a serial number. A voltmeter is showing 13-14 volts charge with the engine running. No visible damage to the wiring, I am wondering if it could be a problem with the ignition switch, which is of the steering lock vari...

Bonnet support extension
Having given myself a headache on a couple of occasions by bashing it on the very sharp corners of my Traveller bonnet, I recall having seen an extended arm which raises the bonnet higher. Anyone know where to buy one?

ignition warning light
I have a 1971 Traveller, fitted with an alternator. Recently, the car broke down, and the condenser was found to be faulty. After replacing it, the ignition light in the speedometer stays on, even when the key is withdrawn, any idea as to cause? The light goes out after the engine is started, and th...

Re: 1098cc oil consumption
You could be right there. I once inadvertently left the oil filler cap off, then noticed that the car was not ticking over as it should, which suggested that air was being drawn into the cylinders (thereby weakening the mixture) via the rocker box cover and the valve guides. And yes, there is a leak...

Re: 1098cc oil consumption
Thanks for the input, folks. Mine does not put out blue smoke, but it is using/ losing about a pint every 200 miles or so, and chucks out black spots of oil/ carbon on cold starting. In all other respects it is starting/running/ pulling normally. Patrick

1098cc oil consumption
Can someone give me an idea how much oil a Minor engine in good condition ought to use; and (assuming oil cost is not a consideration) at what level of consumption the engine ought to be overhauled? My Traveller has done 96,000 miles, reputedly without a rebore.

MM first gear whine
Do all Minors whine in bottom gear? A potential buyer told me it was an indication of wear in the gearbox; a friend tells me that it may be because they have straight cut gears. Opinions, please?

Re: Traveller rear floor removal
I was thinking of sectioning the floor just behind the rear seat. It would be useful to gain access for maintenance, and to make the best use of the storage space beneath.

Traveller rear floor removal
Has anyone out there made the rear floor over the spare wheel removable, either completely detachable, or hinged upwards, to get better access top the 'boot' space? What are the structural implications?

I suspect a bit of tongue in cheek there. I mean the boot in the front.

Re: VW engines for Minors?
Nothing new about stealing the Germans' ideas. BSA pinched the design of the DKW to create the Bantam. Russia and China did likewise with the BMW motorcycle - the latter still does.
I woner what the logistics of fitting the VW engine would be?

VW engines for Minors?
I was approached at a car boot by a chap who noticed my Traveller, and said that he used to sell them new. He then asked if I knew why there was so much space around the engine. He then told me that when the Minor was first designed, they were thinking of putting a VW flat-four in the car, but later...

Glove locker magnetic catches
Anybody know a source of new catches; alternatively can you suggest an adaptation to eliminate a very irritating habit of flying open? I have looked at cupboard catches, but they all seem the wrong size for the mounting holes. I have a 1971 Traveller.

Minor indicators
My 71 Traveller developed a problem whereby the indicator warning light went on with the ignition, regardless of setting, while the winkers themselves did not operate. I've just replaced it with a new unit, same terminal markings, but slightly different rating. Now the winkers work, but the warning ...

I too have a 1971 Traveller in Teal blue, so I would be interested to hear what new colour you chose, and how you think it turned out.
