Minor indicators

Post by patrickhowell »

My 71 Traveller developed a problem whereby the indicator warning light went on with the ignition, regardless of setting, while the winkers themselves did not operate. I've just replaced it with a new unit, same terminal markings, but slightly different rating. Now the winkers work, but the warning light does not; the bulb has been tested and is working. Can anybody suggest a solution?

Did this happen suddenly with the old unit - ie were they ok one day - and faulty the next? Is it possible the wires are on wrong terminals? Temporarily join all 3 wires together (not on the can) - do they work ok now...obviously not flashing...

You say the rating is different, the load on the flasher should be 42w. What is the total load of the replacement?
It could be because the load is incorrect the flasher are not operating as they should.

My guess would be that your new/replacement flasher unit is faulty. I have exactly the same fault with not one but TWO replacements! In the end I bought a secondhand original one and it has been perfect ever since :) .
