Re: Electric Fuel Pump SU v Hardi

My remark was in the nature of a very light-hearted joke. But to address your point, the fact that the pump ticks on turning on the ignition is no guarantee that it will continue to do so during driving, a fact that I and many others have learnt through previous experience....... :-?

Re: Electric Fuel Pump SU v Hardi

Quite so - as long as you can hear it over the noise of the engine and the various squeaks, creaks, rattles and clonks from the rest of the car!

Re: Pull starter

Try simply pressing the switch pin previously mentioned. It should activate the starter motor. If it does, then some switch cleaner may sort it, as suggested. It is also possible that the cable is not functioning properly. I once had a similar problem to the OP and, on investigation, I noticed the n...

Re: Dual/Split Personality Register

One possibility is that the original purchasers of these vehicles stipulated that they wanted gloveboxes fitted, and if the dealers were happy to oblige there may only have been a handful of these particular cars with this combination of features.......

If the split-screen and Oct 63 onward arms are not right, I think these are what you need: https://www.morrisminorspares.com/body-inc-panels-trim-c21/wipers-washers-c36/tex-windscreen-wiper-arm-l-h-pre-october-63-ahh5421-p829085 and: https://www.morrisminorspares.com/body-inc-panels-trim-c21/wipers-...

Re: What and where does this pipe go

A picture would help, but I'm guessing that it's the flame trap from the old vacuum advance pipe, since replaced by the modern plastic pipe (assuming that there is a working vacuum advance fitted), but left in situ. Ah, now that the OP has clarified the object is affixed by one of the thermostat ho...

Re: What and where does this pipe go

Without seeing it, I am guessing it is an after-market take-off for a temperature gauge of some sort......maybe there is some obviously non-original gauge or lamp in the dashboard that it is meant to connect to?

Re: Dual/Split Personality Register

I would say very few of the older models are original now. Even if they have been maintained to the original specs, many parts will have been replaced at some time or another - tyres immediately come to mind. A truly original car (or as close to as you might expect to find nowadays) are more likely ...

Re: Gaskets

I can confirm from experience Phil's recommendation for the blue paper thermostat gasket shown in his photo. I had to replace the thermostat housing a few years ago as it had developed a small leak from the top. First I used the cork gasket but it soon leaked. So I got the one Phil recommends and it...

Re: its a bit of a shock.

I learned to drive on the same Morris Minor that I have now, 35 years later. I have never banged my head on the bonnet (but maybe I have and hit my head so hard I cannot remember!). It's the older style of boot prop shaking out in high wind and letting the boot lid drop on your head you have to wat...

Re: Morris Minor Pickup 1965 not starting

Best to use E5 petrol, E10 has a higher concentration of ethanol which is not good for our old cars, it will start to dissolve rubber components in the pump and fuel lines. I don't know if your cylinder head has been re-built to take unleaded petrol, but if not, you might want to consider having thi...

A bit more background might help. You say "I had a problem with rough running when at high revs." Did this just occur out of the blue, or had you done anything to the car beforehand?

Re: Diff oil

Yes, of course you can fill the gun by spooning in the grease, but I have always used the method preferred by Les. As for the diff itself, I have found that if it is running low on oil it will start to make a whirring noise, initially when at slow speeds and cornering. But of course it is best to ca...

Re: Lower Trunnion Removal

Yes, I have fitted those removable seals and very happy with them. Much easier than dismantling the suspension to fit - and an improvement over severing the old-style seals, slipping them on, and binding them with self-amalgamating tape so they stay in place!

Re: Sidelight/indicator earth

The wiring diagram Geoberni shows is not for the later lights being discussed though. It is for the earlier cars with the clear glass front lights and small red rear lights which operate as flashers using the Lucas DB10 cut-out unit shown in the diagram  Indeed, that is so. But it hardly make...
