Re: Pump not chattering
Remove the fuel line from the carb and place in a suitable container. Switch on, does it pump now? Strangely enough, I was working on a Minor this afternoon that started perfectly on 5 year old petrol but then stopped. Float chamber empty. The pump was OK, but the needle valve in the carb was gummed...

Re: Past history.
I cannot comment on individual cases, but the only reason for a ban is the contravention of the Ts&Cs. I was not involved at the time of the disagreement with Jonathan, but I believe there have been instances in the past where people posted very strong criticism of the work undertaken by a trade...

Re: Driving a Failed voluntary MOT vehicle?
This is a very interesting and serious discussion, but it is getting "congested", so I'm going to lock the topic for now and try to get some professional expert advice on the subject. If I succeed, then I will post what will hopefully be a definitive answer,

Re: Starter shorting/cooking wires
If the connection to the starter motor was made incorrectly, perhaps undoing the terminal securing nut and connecting the cable so that it was touching or close to the body, then that could create a short, and with internal wiring disturbed, quite possibly a bang. A picture would definitely help. Le...

Re: Help timing
The position of the distributor depends on the fitment of the distributor drive shaft, which can be engaged with any of its teeth meshing. NB, the drive shaft, not the shaft on the distributor that engages with the drive shaft in the engine. I take care to ensure that the shaft is fitted so that the...

Re: Door safety catch
If the catch is cleaned thoroughly, then the rear plate can be secured with superglue or JB Weld or similar. Clamp until set, but once fitted to the pillar, then the plate will be held in place anyway.

Re: Tudor WIndscreen washer installation
Helendam (hell and damn) is no longer a registered user. Posts remain as otherwise the subsequent discussion makes no sense. I have never known windscreen washers to have injectors! I think that people creating such accounts and then using them are really rather sad and pathetic, simply wanting to s...

Re: Hi all.. New owner from Sunny Lancashire
Welcome and congratulations on what looks to be a fine car :D Ask away as much as you like and we'll always try to help. One caution: check that engine carefully. The DVLA record shows it as 948cc. If it really has been swapped, then you must notify the DVLA. It won't be a problem, just use the chan...

Does it then work OK after 4 seconds? I have seen the message perhaps twice in 20+ years.
Does it make any difference whether yo are logged in or not?

Re: 2025 National Rally
All tickets in the packs that you collect upon arrival, nothing being sent by post (a) because of potential delays (b) cost. The security gate has a list of booked vehicles and people, and once checked, you will be directed to the MMOC check-in where you collect all papers and tickets. From there yo...

Re: Steering wheel locknut
Second hand columns are usually easy to find as they do not tend to wear out. Using a tap and die to re-cut the thread should be the work of only a few minutes.

Re: Steering wheel locknut
I agree completely, and have the said washer on my Minors, never a problem. For DaveW, remove the steering wheel and double check how the nut performs on the column alone - access and viewing much better than with the wheel in place. The nut should spin easily. Once resolved, refit the wheel and the...

Re: Battery Polarity change
Another option is to move the earth cable to the other side of the battery box and fit a longer cable to the other terminal. This does depend on having the correct style/size of clamp; butr leaves the original battery the same way round.

Stephen, could you please try quoting Berni's post above, adding your own line and then quote your quote, just to see what happens. Thanks.

Re: " Best" Upgrade
If you are going to use the car in the winter, then electrically heated front and rear screens. Good demisting = improved visibility = improved safety. My Minors have always been kept outside, so on a frosty morning, plenty of scraping. With heated screen, go out, start engine, switch on screen. By t...
