There are quite a few supplier of cut to pattern solid copper gaskets, however you shouldn't ever need one my racer ran with standard Copper-asbestos ( or whatever the current replacement is) with a compression ratio of 13:1 and never blew. It's more about having a flat face on the head and block an...

But bearing in mind how old any of these cars are you need to check the diff itself ( Either etched on the crown wheel or stamped on the diff casing) in each case whether its a Riley or Wolsely as it may well have had its diff changed over the years.

The dish ones must go in with the dish sticking out so you can spread it by walloping it flat . The cup type go in so the bottom of the cup is furthest in the block. like Scott says.

Kate, would you not be able to fit the 3.7 diff from Wolsley 1500 or Riley 1.5. Would have thought the 1275 would pull it ok as the 1098 pulls the 3.9, just. Have got a 3.7 to go in mine, but as I only have 1098 have worked out that if I put 13" wheels on it should be ok. However, since I got ...

Natural upgrade is the MG Metro camshaft - but snag is it has a different oil pump drive - so it's engine out to fit it. Bonus is the newer oil pump is much better! Otherwise maost of the Mini places sell upgrade cams - and can supply to suit the Minor pump drive. But if nothing else is getting cha...

I can't think what the felt is for except for really early engines .
Its only about putting all the bolts in loosely and let the oil seal centralize the cover on the crank, then tighten all the bolts . It's probably not really neccessary with modern seals .

I would think the wear on the handbrake ratchet problem must almost unnoticeable, however I would agree about NOT using the gears to slow down with . Its what brakes are for and it's much easier/cheaper to replace a set of brakes than a gearbox.

I used to run a ball bearing relase bearing in my racer , it came I believe from Bath Morry centre , and was a direct replacement.

What about these mobile clutch clinics ?, they ought to be cheaper as they have virtually no overheads. Can you not get a sight of the gearbox input shaft through one of the holes in the bellhousing. If it is going round while the propshaft is not when the car is in gear , the clutch is probably OK ...

I am surprised that on the subject of brake fade with drums that no-one has ever mentioned different brake linings , with or without a servo. I race a drum braked car ( Not a Moggie) and would never expect to use standard linings. I don't have any specific recommendations - just surprised no-has exp...

You have had the car since October and not found the dipswitch yet ?
You must eat a lot of carrots !. It is located on the floor above the propshaft tunnel . pressing this will bring your headlight onto Main Beam Full beam , call it what you will and the blue light will light up.

When you say using a bit of coolant , I hope your not expecting the level to stay at the top of the radiator inlet neck , as it heats up the water expands and blows out of the overflow and thel evel will always be about half inch below the rad neck, but it looks like all the car wants is an oil and ...

Most cars of the fifties and sixties were geared for driving on A roads and the occasional dual carriageway and so appear undergeared on todays open roads. I always try to fit a higher ratio diff if possible , depending on the tune of the engine and found that a standard 1098 would pull a 3.9 diff q...

Taper roller bearings must be done up TIGHT! The design requires the inner races to be bedded tightly together against a central spacer. If the bearing is then 'loose' then the central spacer must be thinned down very slightly. Equally - if the bearing is 'tight' then shims must be added to the cen...

When you stamp on the brakes any load is taken off the adjusters by the pistons moving away from the stops. So it is just possible the adjuster was broken , just waiting for the hard aplication of the brakes to give it enough room to fall apart.

I would suggest leave well alone except maybe bolt the starter back and check the compressions, and then rebuild the head if reqd. There again the head is just as easy to do in the car. If you do strip the motor , renew the oil pump before thinking about doing anything else. BUT bear in mind if you ...

Standard valve lift is 0.250in at the cam , this is multiplied by 1.245 which is the rocker ratio.Don't forget to add in the thickness of the gasket in your calculations.
