I have just taken my car out for a short drive and found this 3/4 inch long screw on the drive just behind where my car usually sits. With Brasso and a scouring pad and a lot of rubbing you can get get rid of most of the rust stains, just leaving the pit marks. The chrome can look reasonably presentable. Ultimately you will need to replace the chromework and yes, a lot of it is cr*p although hub caps may be available in stainless...

Good advice here Lou, I wish I had listened to you in the beginning.

If you replace, be careful some new chrome parts are poorly plated and last very little time. Source your replacements carefully. I've had first hand experience of buying replacement chrome parts that haven't lasted 12 months.

Thank you to everyone for their help. Well the Hometune chap came and fitted new points,plugs and condenser did a diagnostic and tune up. it now goes at 180mph in fourth (only joking). Hi Roy, There are definitely sparks from each plug as I tried them all individually against the engine block. The petrol I used was from a petrol can I use for the lawn mower and I must admit it has been in there as long as the petrol in the car. I will buy some new tomorrow and maybe try Alex's sug...
