I've decided to fit the coil over shock conversion to the front of my van due to the extra weight up front, could really do with some help on this one though. All the brackets are fitted according to the instructions but when fitting the shock, the actual spring fouls on the upper trunnion very badly. This can't be right can it??? any help apreciated.

Got to be worth getting onto the supplier as there may be a faulty component

Who's kit is it. You will find that on full drop the coil-over will contact the trunnion. You will never achieve this position on the road so don't worry, if its contacting at laden weight then do worry, and contact the supplier.

Has all the geometry been set up properly ? As asked already - who's kit is it, or is it DIY ? And really it should not contact the trunnion even on full droop - that would be an MOT fail I think ! Any chance of a picture of the installation - and the problem ?

No it is not a failure to contact the trunnion on full drop, or should I say that we have never had one of our kits failed. There is no problem with the slight touch of the trunnion as you should never be able to replicate this position on the road, unless your flying ,then its the least of your problems!!!

I once got a good few foot of clear air under a Mini, are you sure you can't replicate the position on a Minor...? ;)

Hi all,
Thanks for your responses. The contact is on full drop, I can see it should be clear when I get everything back on the car weighing it down but was just worried by the amount it does press on the trunnions now even with the engine and box fitted. I didn't realise they all did this.
It's the kit from the Minor centre Bath so assume it's an Owen Burton kit?
Cheers.

Me too! A humpback bridge in Market Drayton. I broke a spat off one of the wheel arches on my Mini as my wheels were not perfectly straight when I landed.

Robins,
Are the coil-overs contacting the trunnions whe just at laden weight, if they are then something is definately wrong. Normally they only touch, and thats touch,( not stop the movement of the leg). when the car is jacked up to fully and the wheel clear of the floor.
I dunno, you boy racers, getting air!!

You're lucky... My landing didn't do wonders for the crossmember the tower mounts bolted to
Took a few days to work out why the subframe seemed to move so much when turning the wheel at standstill...

My avatar on Minifinity shows my rally Elf well in the air on Tour of Mull - and my rally Minor had it's flying moments too !
Why is there no avatar on this forum ?
I still don't think the coils should ever touch moving parts of the suspension. Still to hear whose kit this is ?

Possibly to avoid bad taste ones, and save on bandwidth. A shame though.

Hi Jonathon
I haven't actually fitted the shocks fully yet as I saw it will be in contact and got worried. Basically my van is just a bare rolling shell with just engine and box fitted at moment so still got all the panels to go on, so the suspension is essentially on full drop as there is not enough weight to hold it down off the stops yet. I can see it would be as you describe when I get everything back on the van. I'm a few weeks off having it all put back together so will let you all know how it goes. Thanks for all your help guys.
cheers.

Robins,
If you have any further problems do contact MMC Bath first, or e-mail me and I'll be happy to advise.
