Where should I wire the live feed for a water temp guage to on a car with a gold faced speedo? it doesn't seem to have the voltage regulator like the black faced one!

You can get senders for Mini's which haven't got a voltage regulator, don't know if that would bypass the problem?

well it worked fine like that when the volatge regulator (on the bulkhead) was set to an open circuit reading of 12v..... then I changed it so it actually charged the battery...........

If you do not have a voltage regulator then pick up the live feed
from the fuse which has all the green wires on it. connect to the
'green wire' side and it will work. you will get a variation on the
reading because it will not be constant voltage but it will work.

Thats what I did to start with, it does work, it tells me its running at 110 deg c! (against the stop...) Can I take a voltage regulator of the back of one of the black speedos I have and wire that up? if so how do I need to do it?

Never done that ,but if you do,then note the side with the single
light green wire on it. This is the regulated side where you should take
the feed for your gauge from.

but it should be possible and nothing should blow up or get very hot?

Not if you do it correctly. The only problem I have heard of in
this type of installation is that the voltage stabiliser had burned out
because it could not handle supplying the fuel gauge AND the additional
gauge but this seems rare and,in your case, you will only be supplying
one gauge.

Excellent, something to try next week....

Aye, I've got my temp gauge coming off from the stabilised side of the voltage regulator (although, to be honest, none of the voltage regulators I've tried (I think I've been through three) - seem to give either a terribly stable or sensible voltage). But the gauge seems to read about right (it's probably underreading a touch).
