Inevitably I suppose after replacing the water valve on back of cylinder head I dropped one of the mounting nuts. Its not on the engine and not on the large piece of cardboard underneath. Its in the gravel! Anyone know what thread it is please?

Get a strong magnet and rake it through the gravel?

Oh God, I hate it when this happens! Only the other day I dropped a trafficator mounting screw and it took bleddy ages to find it on the garage floor

I dropped a BA nut weeks ago and I only found it on the drive yesterday. BA stuff is not stuff I keep much of a stock of but I did find an old one. I never throw the rusty ones away unless they’re ruined. When my coil fell off on the motorway last week I found the nut had fallen off the clamping screw. I even found a spare one of those in my bag of spares in the car. I am always dropping things. It gets annoying!

These are quite large parts. My hobby used to be watchmaking. Now those parts really are difficult to find! They often go much further than anticipated or sometimes a much shorter distance. They're rarely where you think they ought to be. One of the houses in my village when being refurbished they found clock parts that had gone through slots between floor boards. When the investigated the history it was the clock makers house. Its now named as clock house

Oh I have taken floorboards up before now to find parts!!! I once took the floorboards up to find my wedding ring but it was in my pocket the whole time........

I bought a magnetic sweeping brush from ebay,
trouble is it also finds other lost things in the gravel, like nails I didnt know were lost,

Better to find the nails in the gravel than in the tires.
