i have just fitted a new delphi borg/beck clutch.
i noticed that the outside diameter of the friction material is about 5mm+ less then the one i took off, and a little less on the inside dia too!
cut backs on production costs, and faster wearing of clutch plate.

Hang on - haven't Borg and Beck made the ultimate cut back in production costs and closed down?

that explains why its got delphi on the box, with borg and beck in small print.
and probably why the clutch has been changed.

aha! I just ask 'cos the Brum Mog centre were having problems with clutches for the Sierra kit. Ray of L will know the full story.

cut backs on production costs, and faster wearing of clutch plate.
always! ;-)
The wear rate is affected most by the way you drive (eg holding on a hill or steep junction using the clutch instead of the handbrake). If you drive properly the clutch will last 3 times longer. The other big clutch killer is high RPM pull-aways so if you want almost zero clutch wear try and keep the revs around 1500 rpm during normal take ups until the clutch is closed.
new delphi borg/beck clutch
Delphi bought the distribution rights and logos for AP Lockheed and Borg &Beck.
Therefore Delphi can sell whatever they want with those logos.
AP itself (what's left of it) is still running, doing brakes and some hydraulics out of Italy, and still running in the USA I think.
