I spotted it as well before I saw this notice. Also reported to ebay.

Ebay probably wont end the auction as nowhere does it say he's offering the identity, though the pic is a bit of a clue...
Reported too for what its worth. At least POMMREG can add it to his list of 'logbook only' Minors....

It did originally - its been amended

Gave up on the stolen minor database as owners would never supply chassis number details of their pinched motors....

Not much I can do without a chassis number - only so much I can do.

You know,I could have fallen for it when I got a Minor 12 years ago. I've only picked up on the scams since I joined this site.

Seen plenty myself that don't quite add up over the years as a restorer. Some supplied and sold by well known Minor specialists, even a dealer who specialised in doing vans and pickups who just used whatever chassis, cab and rear body configuration with whatever logbook was convenient.

My first ever Minor doesn't quite add up as the prev owner was quite open about having rebuilt it using the best bits of two, which is why it has the reg (and probably the chassis) of a GPO van but original maroon paint wherever you looked. Not too fussed about that one as its known history, and probably no worse than what the GPO did in their own workshops when refurbishing them and at least not a total ringer...

'Best' ones I've seen were a J reg convertible with trafficators, gold speedo and push pull knobs. Even the body numbers had been swapped over on that one as they were still in smoke grey which stood out rather on a green car...
And a '57 1000 saloon with broad pleated seats, shrouded heater, flashing brake light indicators and no trafficators supplied by a major Minor dealer...

Reading Iain's post, looks like I speak for many!! As I suspected.

I asked the guy If he realised he was encouraging fraudulent use and he replied twice that I should get off my high horse and became abusive. Glad it has gone, shows the power of our club!

I asked for some clarification on this one and all got was 'That's what it says on the log book ' Any views ?

It appears to be a '53 or '54. It might have a '57 reg for legitimate reasons such as being used abroad for the first few years, or it might be a typo when it was put on the DVLA database. DVLA were hopelessly innaccurate for the first couple of decades, and not much better now. Best check would be to see if the chassis number is right for its age, if it has a '57 vin plate its dodgy.

A heritage certificate, if it has one, would confirm original date, spec and whether it was exported from new.

Heritage Certificates mean tiddly-squit unless the chassis number is taken from the bodyshell.

Bizzare phone call tonight, owner quoted numbers from his pickup - obviously a duff as chassis 1968, cab 1970 & engine HC - he got quite annoyed,said I was a "Nissan Micra" & he'd complain to the mmoc...Uh? WTF?!!
