New gasket has been installed & the old girl is running beautifully :) However the not so good news is that the block is scored, so we are taking things steady pending an engine out job for the winter :-? Baaah humbug!

Hmm - you say it's an 'update' - but did we have a previous on this ? That has been run for quite some time to get to that state! No wonder the block (and almost certainly - head) are scoured.... It's important to stop right away when a head gasket blows..... Meantime - torque it down again after the first heat cycle - to 44 ft lbf... and cross your fingers...

Yes there is a previous thread, and I'm sure you commented

It was run for about 2 miles to get home after cylinders 3 & 4 conked out (mobile network was not playing so I couldn't summon help and it was (insert illegal word) it down with rain at the time). I promised an update to the people who responded to my last thread - if this is a cautionary tale on what not to do when a head gasket blows then so be it!
