After a run tonight I'm noticing a small vibration from
The gearbox but only under acceleration. I'm thinking possibly the hardy slicer ( if that's the right terminology ) any ideas of what else to check

Hardy Spicer made prop shafts and universal joints etc, so not an actual component itself.
Could be engine or gearbox mountings or the engine steady tie bar.

Spicer......! Get under and feel the prop shaft for up-down/side to side movement, at both ends -and check the 4 bolts at the final drive are tight. Also check oil level in g'box and final drive.

Did you notice it because the gear lever started rattling?
If so you need to look at the bits and bobs that should stop that happening, the O ring round the bottom of the stick is a prime candidate.

No it feels more of a vibration coming up through the seat but from the back of the car

Hi,
Do they still balance prop shafts, (called cardan shafts in the good old days) .
Did we used to fit jubilee clips round the prop shafts to stop gear box shudder, if the universal joints where ok.
(Just another simple thought, make sure all your rear wheel nuts are tight).
Roy.

I'd take a close look at the rear tyres and rims while you are checking the wheel nuts.

I had my propshaft professionally balanced - absolutely transformed the car! I wasn't aware how much the chassis was vibrating at 50mph until it was gone. Best money I think I ever spent on the car!

It was a place in Bankstown - I'll check the paperwork and let you know. Really good service.

Great

Thanks for that, I would like to have mine done. I replaced the universals but didn't mark which way they were positioned and since then have had vibration in the tailshaft.

The place is called Propeller Shaft Services in Ilma St Bankstown. They also replaced the uni joints for me as the ones I'd fitted were pretty low quality and had some movement. Like I say, absolutely transformed the car.
