Windscreen rubber question

Hi all
I have a windscreen rubber question, on removing the faded central strip from the good windscreen rubber to fit a new one I noticed that under the windscreen rubber is another rubber, I though there was only one rubber around the windscreen not 2 pieces.

Mine's one piece, are you sure the two parts are definately seperate, and not one piece coming apart somehow?

I would guess that it is simply thick black mastic as there would be no room to fit 2 rubbers

That's probably a better answer!

Hi David and Les
You where correct, a large amount of black filler had been squeezed under the rubber when it was fitted, this had gone hard and brittle but retained the moulded shape of the rubber.
When I tried to peel it up it just crumbled.
Now need to replace the rubber, better now before the respray.
Thanks
Reg

Better to leave the screen out until after the respray - so the paint covers all the metal. Then fit a nice new rubber, and there shouldn't be any need for mastic/sealer.
