2 Door Conversion

Post by Blodwin »

I started this project back in June and was hoping to have it back on the road for Christmas, well here it is. Still needs a little work and a dab of paint here and there but things are coming together nicely.
I started by completely stripping the car down to the so that I could check exactly how much rust there was, there was a lot. Lots of new panels welded in place which included all of the strengthening panels required for the conversion to a Convertible.
When the roof was removed I found that there had been no body sag and the doors shut perfectly.
As can be seen I have cut off the top section of the windscreen surround and grafted on a donor section taken from an original scrap Convertible. I fitted strengtheners inside the windscreen section where I had cut through in order to ensure that it was solid and not to rely solely on the weld. To ensure that I got the gap correct I made templates of the area where the screen fitted prior to removing the top section.
Now that has been done I can concentrate on the upper body, fitting the new wings, doors etc prior to start rubbing down ready for spraying which I hope to get done by early summer 2011. :D[frame]Image[/frame]

Congratulations on the progress so far.Restoration plans are always "subject to alteration ", especially the time aspect.
Short cuts now always lead to regrets later. You will spot the faults when you finish and it will niggle.
Do it, whilst it is in bits, it's a pain going back later.

It will be finished, when it's finished ( to my satisfaction ), is a good motto.

Spraying, when there is snow on the ground, is never a good idea unless you are blessed with a pro paint booth and plenty of heat.

Keep going and you will be proud of your efforts.Well done.
