I started by completely stripping the car down to the so that I could check exactly how much rust there was, there was a lot. Lots of new panels welded in place which included all of the strengthening panels required for the conversion to a Convertible.
When the roof was removed I found that there had been no body sag and the doors shut perfectly.
As can be seen I have cut off the top section of the windscreen surround and grafted on a donor section taken from an original scrap Convertible. I fitted strengtheners inside the windscreen section where I had cut through in order to ensure that it was solid and not to rely solely on the weld. To ensure that I got the gap correct I made templates of the area where the screen fitted prior to removing the top section.
Now that has been done I can concentrate on the upper body, fitting the new wings, doors etc prior to start rubbing down ready for spraying which I hope to get done by early summer 2011.
