Ital/Marina axle - propshaft mods needed

Post by GeorgeHurst »

Hi there,
I know this must have been discussed but I can't find the info anywhere on the forum.
I have just bought an Ital axle which I will be fitting to my saloon when I fit the Ital 1300 engine I have. I understand that the propshaft needs to be shortened and the drive flange changed to mate with the Ital diff flange, but am unsure of the details...

If you have fitted an Ital axle, how have you gone about it? It would be great to get the details of how much shorter the prop needs to be and how one goes about the different flange. I presume this needs doing professionally to make sure the prop is balanced?

Or should I perhaps be using an Ital/Marina box and then using an unmodified ital prop?

Or even bettter.... has anyone got the prop I need for sale?! :D

Cheers
George

I bought a propshaft already made up from Birm MMC for a ford box to Marina axle. I can't remember the price but it must have been reasonably OK otherwise I would have looked elsewhere. I have a propshaft in the shed (somewhere) that was from a Minor box to a marina axle would this be of any use to you? As (when the rain stops) I could measure it for you but I am not sure this propshaft will fit a Marina or Midget box??

Hi Jeff, Fantastic! Thanks so much for the post, the Minor box to Marina axle combo is exactly what I am looking for... so any measurements or pics you could send over would be most gratefully received.
I don't suppose you might be persuaded to part with it? I would love to buy it off you if you have no use for it as it would save me having to go and get one made up.
Cheers
George

The measurements are 1360mm total length of the shaft and 90mm is the width of the flange, this is just with a tape measure so won't be 100% accurate.

I have sent a PM as I have photos that I can email if you want them.
