Had a happy day today :D

Picked up the splitscreen from Charlie Morris Minor - Thanks!!! With a bit of research it transpires that its a 54 series II, although the V5 states first regisration as 57 so some further digging required there I feel.

Its been hacked about a bit, so its going to need some attention! I dont know a huge amount about the early cars so I'm going to have lots of questions coming up!

Initial assesment as follows

Driverside only so far

front wing - too bent to be saved :(
Inner wing - what inner wing?
A post - needs a bit of attention - door flexes up and down
Sill bottoms need replacing - not yet been able to get the sill covers off to asses true state...
Crossmember end needs replacement
Spring hanger needs replacement.

front crossmember needs refitment (as there isn't one at the moment!)
The boot floor isn't too bad at the ends but needs repair in the middle.

Interior wise the seats are in reasonable nick and should come good with a good feeding and a re-web.

The dashboard is fubar'd where someone has hacked it about to fit a different speedo in the middle (anyone know what the middle of the dashboard should look like without the cover bit)

Wiring needs to be completly ripped out (to say some of whats been done is dodgy...)

Pics to follow tomorrow if I can get the camera charged
8)

The car seems to be reasonably sound overall so the plan of action is to strip the wings off and do all the welding nessecary there. Then spin the car on the bumper mounts to do the underside (we are pretty confindent that there is enough strength there to do it....) Normal style roller wont work as I've only got a single garage to work in.

Overall, very pleased and what can I say, the price was right 8)

Its literally just the central bit where the speedo is on the later cars that I need to see the metalwork for.

I've got the cover, with the ashtray so I'm guessing there needs to be a small cut somewhere in the dash.

And yes BMC it is a proper project - just what I need right now tbh...

I actually have a spare dash if you are interested, someone hacked the dash out of my yellow peril (with a can-opener by the looks of it), so I cut a dash out of a scrapper but didnt really take enough of it for my needs so when I scrapped Daisy I took the dash out of that ... that leaves me with a spare dash which may be enough for your needs.

Obviously the whole thing might be a bit difficult/expensive to post, but if you only want the centre section then I could cut that out and post it to you if you will pay the postage ... It's out of a 1000 saloon though, I dont know if that makes a difference.

It does I'm afraid Alain. The series 2 doesn't have the central speedo....

Oh well, it will remain in storage until someone else has need of it ... pretty much unlikely, but you never know.

Welcome to the four door series II club Dan! :D

Like me you'll probably find there is loads of early MM stuff fitted. Which although makes it slightly more difficult to source bits (club spares are good for that though) they look more unique. ;)

Theres certainly no MM running gear fitted - all that was ripped out and replaced with a 2.0 twin cam (now in use by Charlie) so the plan is to use 1000 running geat etc etc....

As dean said Welcome to the 4 Door series II club :D , mines a late one so has the later type dash so no point in me taking pics for you on that but lots of the rest is the same. Any detail pics you need just ask and I will try to help.

About the same time as the Germans I think.....

Anyway been down to the garage to start the stripdown and took some pics for you bunch!

I only meant to go and get some quick snaps and put him away again, but things never work out quite like you plan do they?

So this afternoon I have removed both front wings - seems both are only really fit for the bin :( I knew the drivers side was knackered but the passenger side is rotten. Anyway after much swearing and blood (really!) they were off the selection of different sized nuts and bolts and differing amounts of being seized didn't help!

It turns out the passenger side is suprisingly sound. Not sure it would actually need anything at all for an MOT. Its all good, sound metal - done messily and for the sake of my sanity I might rip it out and try again.

Turns out the floor has been replaced in the past using sheet sheel rather than the proper panels so has an odd profile in places so again thats going to need some post MOT attention but it OK for now.

I'm quite pleased with the car at the moment and I'm looking forwards to getting my welder back! (Matt leant it to one of his friends - with my permission mind you!)

I still can't get the ruddy sill covers off so thats going to be a job for the grinder!

Tomorrows jobs are to get the rear arches off (are they bolted on saloons?) and attempt a garage tidy up
