240mm is 9.5" - I'm not aware of any 9.5" rear drums - Not even on the Wolseley or Riley?

Are they front or rear brakes? I'm guessing they are front brakes for now...

IIRC, the 8" drum is just over 9" on the outside - you need to measure the INSIDE diameter.

What year is the car? Minors after ~62 had 8" front drums as standard. Some pre-62 cars have been upgraded from 7" to 8" front brakes from the later Minor. (some even have 9" Riley/Wolseley front brakes)

If you take the old shoes into a motor factor then they may let you sit there with the books they have comparing the pictures in the book with the shoes you have ... might take a while tho.

The shoes are definitely front - they both have notches for the snail cam. Advice above is all good. :D Congratulations on your English, it's better than my French.

It looks to me like you have 8" (203mm) brakes and the new shoes you received are the earlier 7" (178mm) type.

I'd go with Alex on this one!

Strangely I had convinced myself that these were rear brakes - Having looked again they are clearly fronts and I also go with the fact that you have 8" brakes on your car and have been supplied with 7" replacements - Send them back for an exchange as both are available without any problems.

It's rear brakes.
In that case it 'could' be anything.
First to try would be Wolseley / Riley as they had larger rear brakes.
Do you think: is 8"drum
if the inside of the drum is ΓΈ8" then yes!

Can you post a picture of the old shoes in-situ, showing the cylinder(s), backplate, and bit of axle. The shoes appear to be twin leading shoes, and rears should be single. I'm intrigued to see how the handbrake operates....

Could you ask Woodies what they did to it?

Could they be of a modified Marina or Dolomite rear axle? I've heard of both of them being made to fit a Minor..??

Do your brakes look like this?

8 inch rear brakes from Riley 1.5 (or Wolseley 1500?) car. They will work on the Morris Minor.

If they were rear brakes only one shoe would have a cutout for the single snail cam. Both shoes have a cutout therefore they are front brakes

I've never seen a set with a cutout on one side only. Every set I've had have been identical sets of 4 shoes. Can you get rear sets for Riley/Wolseley brakes?

The brake drum ATA 7154 is the 8" diameter front drum for the later cars with 1098 engine. It is also the rear brake drum for the Wolseley 1500! You have indeed bought 7" shoes - when you need 8" shoes! If any of your cars have the smaller 948cc engine - then keep them as spares - otherwise return them in exchange for the correct 8" shoes!

Rob, the only difference between the front and rear 7in shoes is the single cutout. Note the comment on P. M14,, fig M22 of the workshop manual.
