Hi all.

I wonder if you could cast your eyes over this little treat i've discovered today. Its located in the back wheel arch of '64 Traveller, and runs along the length of the seam where the the wheel arch attaches to the body.

My question is this, how easy is it to remove the rear arch on a Traveller, and replace it after plating the hole? I am pretty handy with the spanners, but wondering if this is worth getting a pro to look at it. If so, do you recommend anyone in the Dorset area?

Depending on how the wing is fitted, Some have "captive type" bolts fitted, some are screwed in. Clean the area along the join to find out which. Remove whatever is holding the wing and remove. You will probably find that the edge of the wins is starting to rot awat.
Once off, you can decide wether to repair or replace,

If you can get the wing off without disturbing the timber - excellent! Would certainly not be possible on my Traveller - but others may be put together differently.

It looks like rust on the front of the rear inner wing where there is a flange that the wheelarch timber sits on. To repair properly you would have to remove the whole side!!

You should be able to get away with cleaning up the area and screwing a plate on with plenty of seam sealer or mastic. Its not a very structural area but if left open will rust inside. I would leave the full repair till you need to do a major overhaul or replace timber.

Looking at the photo again, I think that you are right.
