Radiator fitting
Hi, this is my first post so please bear with me. I've recently bought a minor fitted with a 1275 ital engine and gearbox. The radiator requires renewing. I've been told it's an allegro radiator c/w electric fan. The trouble is the radiator / hose system seem to have been cobbled together. the brackets holding the radiator are poor and just screwed to the front grill area of the car. I intend to bin the radiator, hoses and brackets and start again. Can anyone advise with radiator, hoses, brackets to use. I would like to keep an electric fan. Also the inlet manifold has a water inlet and outlet. Any Ideas?
A standard Mog radiator is fine for a 1275 so I would use that. At least you know it will fit OK. Any suitable sized electric fan can then be fitted to the rad by using a univesal mounting system or by making your own brackets. The water feed on the manifold is usually connected into the heater pipe - Its a subject of much discussion as to the pros and cons of plumbing it in though.....

I agree - use a Minor radiator. Probably IS worth connecting the water heated manifold in winter (certainly THIS winter!) - although better not connected in summer!

They make a fuss about 'double core' - not sure this is really necessary. There is a £15 trade-in charge - but it would cost plenty to send them the old rad anyway - so I wouldn't worry too much about that! Best to have new top and bottom hoses with that new rad.

The ital may have larger diameter thermostat housing fitted - but it can easily be changed for a normal Minor item - or use a modified top hose. The bottom hose from a Minor should be fine.
Do you have any pictures of your rad installation ? The Minor rad just bolts to strips of steel on the front panel - so simple brackets would do it - or strips of thin angle steel (ie Dexion or similar). Electric fans have many fittings - but some I know are merely fixed to the rad with tie-wraps going through the core. Not sure I like the idea - but that's how some are done !
