turbo carb tuning????

Post by aussiemike »

Hi guys, just been reading in the new issue of retro cars mag about a turbo mini that is whacking out over 250hp but when you read the article and look at all of the photos it seems to be the norml turbo prepped carb. But no info on how you prepae one of those carbs to flow 250hp?????
any clues?
cheers, michael.

More boost?!! David Vizard's book shows how the throttle spindle can be slimmed down, the butterfly 'knife edged' and the intake tract smoothed out. I don't know if these would be enough.

None of that matters when it's a turbo - you just crank up the boost and fiddle with the camshaft and valve sizes etc. For that kind of power -is it running on pump petrol ? And I expect it will have water injection and massive intercooling. But i wouldn't expect the crankshaft/rods/pistons/headgasket to last more than about 15 minutes. And I'm sure the Mini transmission won't last long either!!

silly or not doesnt really matter, each to their own. My question is simply in relation to the carby. Do they simply run on airflow, by which the more you stuff into it the more fuel gets in as well?

Probably - the piston may end up stuck to the top of the bore most of the time and petrol pouring out of the jet with only a slim tip of the needle as a restriction. Again for that power - it has to be run way over rich.

i urge a-series people to go out and buy the magazine, just so you dont all think i am mad and making it up!!! :)
it is also running nitrous and the total hp is somewhere around the 330hp mark. Basically just wondering that if the carby can be made to deliver that much fuel/air flow on an a-series then surely it would be a good little carby for other engine applications......such as a 12a rotary engine.
cheers BM for the help.
the more the merrier.

I'm sure it CAN do what you say - if you blow hard enough any power is possible - for a very short time. Then - oblivion!
