Physiotherapy?

I wonder there are any physio's (or fitness instructor's etc) in the MMOC that could advise?
As a young man in the late 60's and 70's I maintained my own cars and getting up and down and underneath the car was not a problem physically. Then came 25+ years of lease cars through my job and never thinking I would maintain a car again - until we got our 65 convertible 2 years ago and it all came back to me and I started it over again.
Prob is this, I can get down ok but to get up from the floor I put my hands on the deck and push myself upright. However all my weight is on my shoulders and the left one is quite painful. Gone are the days when I could get up cross legged without using my hands!
What other ways are there of getting up from the floor? I know it may seem a daft question but the answer is not obvious to me. Many thanks.
PS I can't put a pit in my garage which would be the best solution.
