Excellent - some of the chassis is there - and it's 'for historic interest' so nothing wrong with that!

As long as at least some of the vehicle is present - that's ok! It's not a scam to put it on a 'stolen' Minor - it's to be transferred.

Well - I thought there had to be an MOT too - but someone assured me it's possible up to a year after the MOT has expired. I am dubious about this of course! And there are 'ways and means' of getting an MOT certificate, I believe, when the tester has been assured the car will not be going on the highway - and the certificate will be returned to him for destruction after being put to good use.
I have only heard of this - it's not something I have ever done!

Personally, I'm not sure why the 'can only be transferred from an Mot'd car' rule exists. dosn't seem to have much reason behind it. I mean why can't you transfer a number from a total scrapper? Surely it would be better if there was a legal way to this, rather than the 'borrow another car, ring it and mot it type ways - not that I ever have honest, though I've heard of one or two...
Then there would be no reason for 'spare' V5s to be floating about and less chance of a car being stolen for the reg transfer.
Just a thought....

If someone was going to put a different reg on a stolen Minor so they could sell it on, they would be pritty dull to buy a V5 off ebay wouldn't they really. They would have bought a tiered minor as a complete car for next to nothing and used that number and say it was restored if ever questioned. I agree with BMC on this one. If the V5 was sent off as scrap then DVLA would sell the number themselves for a fortune, so why shouldn't the guy try and get some money back from his rusting car by selling as transferable. Getting an iffy MOT is one thing, but then when the DVLA want to inspect the car before they let you have the number transfered, could get you and MOT station into very hot water. It's not something I would want to do, but there are people out there that do it.
Anyway, why do people steel minors? they are hardley a power hammer for joy riders to get excited. Parts are so plentiful you'd find it easier selling fog than breaking it. And even complete cars in nice condition don't sell for much, people are strange.

The V5 is the property of the DVLA and the vehicle keeper is not at liberty to pass it on or sell it to any other party regardless of it's use, be it to ring another vehicle or even keep as a 'vintage interest item' in a top drawer.

I have at present my car number for sale (PYE 458 if anybody is interested)with a specialist company As I understand it the vehicle needs to be taxed and tested for the transfer to go a head or up to three months after the tax has expired. Or you can for £100 have the number transfered onto a retention certificate (From a taxed and tested vehicle) the retention certificate lasts for one year and then you have to renew it each year to hold onto the number in your name. After the three months you can not transfer the number untill the car is re taxed and teasted.Thats what was explained to me anyway.

So does that mean its unusable anyway if its for a scrapped car ?

And while we are at it, shouldn't we be telling the DVLA so they can block any attempt to re-register the original vehicle (or rather it's clone)?
Anybody know if they have such a system in place?

And if you noticed - it's a V5 for a Mini. These are sometimes used to adjust the identity of Minis being exported to USA - where it's difficult/expensive if the car is not 25 years old.
