What carpets for Series II with 1098 gearbox?

I'm looking at the new carpet sets, but not sure which to get as I have a Series II with a 1098 box and engine.
Is the only difference between the series II and 1000 sets around the gearbox cover?
also, are the Newton carpets the best available?

Hey, I think that's the only difference, basically the gaitor on the gear stick in the series IIs is round whereas it is square in the 1000s so it just depends which one you got, if you do get the wrong carpet a new gaitor only costs a couple of quid, I assume they can just be swapped over.
By the way im only really guessing, i'm sure someone else can clarify exactly!

Newton carpets are well worth the extra in my opinion. Especially if you are planning to keep the car, they will serve you well

I think what winger wants to know is will a set of carpets that are shaped for a 1098 car fit the interior of a series II. Normal series II car fitted with 1098 carpets would obviously not fit round the gearlever, but are there any other differences in the floor that poeple now about??

well i fitted a series 2 into a 1000 no problem
so i'd say no not really they are basically the same
i did notice a little difference around the pedals area i had to cut a few more slits to make it fit but you wouldn't have noticed

I am new to Minors so am at risk of embarrasing myself....but isn't the position of the gearstick where it comes through the floor different on the 1000 than the series II?? I thought the series II had a 'fairy wand' gear stick so the hole in the transmission tunnel will be further forward? If you have a series II with a 1000 engine and gearbox then you must have the transmission tunnel cover from a 1000 as well so I think you'd need a 1000 carpet set. As I say I'm a bit of a Minor novice so the experts may correct me but thought I'd 'float' the idea as no one else had!

Pete

You are quite correct.
