steering wheel nut

what size socket do i need for the steering wheel nut.
i have some VERY large ones but not are big enough or fit.
trouble is you can't take the whole rack in the shop to try them

Use a flat screwdriver and a hammer.
Loosens and tightens.

Take care when you pull the wheel off - it tends to let go suddenly and whack you in the face! Best to leave the nut slack but still on the threads while you jiggle the wheel free on the splines.

It could be worse. I had to remove a wheel and column together from a car, and after much wrenching to get it off the splins on the rack it shot backwards... At just below waist height.

i once pulled the steering wheel off and the drivers seats was not bolted down either, got hit in the face with the wheel and cracked my head on the rear window... took me a few seconds to work out where I was!!
