Removal of rear wheel oil seals

Can anyone offer me any advice for the removal of the oil seal on the rear wheel hubs.
I have the hubs out and on the bench, the bearings have been removed without too much difficulty, but the oil seals, now that is a different thing.
HOW DO YOU GET THEM OUT, mine have been pulled (chunks come off) I have had a soldering iron in there and it just seems to skim the surface
ADVICE WANTED
Thanks in advance

If you wipe the grease out you will see that there are two gaps in the ring that the seal sits against.

Easy when you know how!! Just drift them out from there. To be honest I didn't notice till after I'd struggled to get the seal out.

You have totally lost me, I am talking about the seal that is under the bearing not the o ring, are you refereing to the same item? If so I have no idea how you can drift it out as you have now to hit against.................or is just me?
Cheers

You need to drive it out from the front to the rear- or you can just destroy it at the rear and force it out that way.

Yep if you look from the wheel stud side you will see that there is a step that the oil seal sits against. There should be two grooves machined into the step so that you can drift the oil seal out,
Perhaps this drawing will help;

Ah......................not seen them! Will have look and photograph, my seal seems to be peeling and the rubber is stuck fast!!
Are these easier to put in than take out?

I didn't notice any access points to help remove it either, but i didn't know to look for them (I did one about 18 months ago).
It came out with a few harsh words and a hammer and various semi-blunt instruments.

Sounds as though possibly someone has used loctite or similar. Heat?

I agree, a good blow lamp. The rubber / plastic will melt and be very hot, so be well ventilated and "just" scrape out the moulton glue like residue. When fitting the new seals make sure you use a good correct sized drift. Good luck.

I agree, it looks like a lot of heat is needed to soften the rubber then dig them out with a chisel. Perhaps the access points on mine are a mod by a prevous owner.

The seals are rubber coated metal, so heat is doubtful, grooves are usually cast in for seal removal as already mentioned. Maybe a small sharp coal chisel used on the side of the seal to bite in slighty and drive it down. This is risky as you don't want to score the housing.

Destroy it from the back!!

I think you've already suggested that as a possibility!!

No - there will be a steel rim under the rubber. Dig it out!
