Camshaft retaining nut - reusable?

When I replaced the crankshaft on my 1098 engine, I had to drill through the edge of the nut that retains the timing wheel to the camshaft in order to get it off. Unfortunately I haven't got a spare at the moment so I was just wondering if it's safe to re-use it tempoarily? I assume the worst that can happen is that the timing chain would snap - would that cause the valves to hit the pistons, like when a cambelt snaps?
This is the nut as re-fitted. It seems to tighten OK, but there is a visible crack in it.
Any advice would be welcome!

No, I would phone one of the suppliers and get them to send you a new on in the post- should arrive tomorrow morning.

ESM stock them and will pop it in a jiffy bag - not worth the risk

I've have suggested drilling another hole opposite to balance it... ;)

How did you manage to get the nut off? my well fitting socket keeps slipping off when I hit the bar !! ( my the way is it R of Left hand)

It is normal right hand thread - and it should not be that tight. A steady pressure is best rather than sudden blows - far better to use a ring spanner or an open-end. I have used a hammer and chisel in the past - but only do this if fitting a new chain anyway.
