Planning on servicing blossom tomorrow and need a bit of info! I havent got hold of a manual as yet so here are my "20 Questions!" LOL!!

1. what is the Plug gap supposed to be?
2. What clearance on the points?
3. What is the recommended grade of oil?
4. What is the RPM at tickover?
5. What is the correct timing setting? (degrees before or after TDC)
6. Any other useful info??

LO. service details..........Plug gap 25thou". Points Gap 15thou"
Timing..3 degrees BTDC static (use this as a starting point only,
then fine tune on the road for as much advance as possible without
pinking problems). There is a 'click' adjuster on the side of the
distributor..eleven clicks equals one degree.
OIL...20-50 if you can get it. Do not use modern synthetic oil.
Valve clearances Inlet and Exhaust......12 thou".
The Gearbox uses the same oil as the engine.
The top and bottom front swivel pins(king pins) should be greased
every 1000 miles. If the grease will not go in place a layer of cotton
cloth(old shirt) over the nipple and try again!

Just a quick completely exhausted point!

If you can't get 20W/50, then get the 15W/40 Castrol GTX (white bottle) - available in your local Halfords

I have used it for ages and it seems to do the job pretty well.

Don't forget the oil filter and air filter (and fuel filter if someone has fitted one - non standard).

Also, if you are in a greasing mood, give the propshaft a bit, as these tend to be neglected as you have to crawl under the car and get dirty!

Good tips mentioned so far. I'm beaten to it as always! I don't know how they do it.... ;-)
Be wary of over inflated spares prices from some local retailers - always check prices with Minor specialists, even for simple service parts, as they usually give the best deals. Once you're in the club you'll see the magazine is full of adverts for the specialist dealers / suppliers.

I've learnt about servicing over the years and started with a Haynes manual.
I recently got a BMC drivers handbook and they are worth every penny and I really recommend one (usually quite cheap second hand) eg:

There is a regular supply on e-bay so if you want one make, sure you check postage to ensure you get a good deal. (£4 to £5 inclusive seems fair)
They are not big but every page is crammed with stuff you'll want to know about servicing maintenance, settings, etc....

One of the best savigs you can make is to get a grease gun. Regular greasing will save you hundreds over the years plus save you having a nasty suspension failure!!
