Interesting stuff, thanks guys. Time for some reading up. 
I've used the flap whell type, bought it from a local motor factors.
When I had a job working on Briggs and Stratton engines we used the bead type for glaze busting and the stone type for reboring. Aluminium cylinders on those engines though I think the difference is just the speed metal is removed.
