Whilst not directly connected to blue seal engines, I am interested to see the explanation of the different parts of the engines numbers. What is the significance of 189E and the preceding letter to the final series of numbers? Mine is prefixed with an L. I would be grateful if someone could enlighten me - it's all increasing my Minor knowledge!

Hi Guys,
I spoke to a chap the other day and blue engines again came up. He seems to think that blue engines were issued for the Royal Navy! Not sure how watertight a Morris is though when on the water

Both the side valve and A series engines were available in Vedette marine engine versions, the A series in 948 and 1098 sizes[frame]

Well just to add my 2 pennyworth, as mentioned earlier that they had a Sprite with a blue engine, here is a photo from a correctly restored 1960 Sprite that came direct from the Donald Healey Motor Company in London.
