Re: blue seal engine
Actually Gold seal was a full rebuild ie, block and head, silver was a short block rebuild only - and someone cleaverer than me will no doubt know what a blue seal was

Re: blue seal engine
I knew that gold was the full rebuild, but isn't blue the standard Ford engine colour?

Re: blue seal engine
My 1275 Sprite engine is blue. Whether that was its original colour or not I don't know.

Re: blue seal engine
could it just be an austin engine? the a series (from what i remember) was an austin invention and their engines where blue, mg's red and morris's green. This was all before bmc came about when it became all green, with the exception of mg, which retained its red livery for a while.

Re: blue seal engine
Gold and Silver seal engines had different numbers stamped on them - I've still never heard of a blue seal so can't comment....

Re: blue seal engine
No its a standard 1098 engine number - it isn't "lov" it is "10V" (10 for 1098 and the V means it's a late engine). I've got a manual on engine numbers. If you want it pm me your email addy.

Re: blue seal engine
Hi,
I have 2 803cc series II engines and both originally came painted with Blue Blocks. I believe they are just paint colours and had something to do with the Austin works?? Anyway, I thought I would just let you know that there are a few out there that go back to 803 and I have also heard of a 948 painted the same, this is the first time I have heard of a 1098 painted in these colours :-0
Hope this info helps.

Re: blue seal engine
Correct - Sidevalves and some 803's came in a light blue and also grey colours but this was standard, not as inferred by Josh to be a recon of some sort.... Not sure about the Austin connection to the colour (accepted it was an Austin engine) either as the sidevalve was used originally in the Morris 8 and the early 803's were the same colour so probably done that way for continuity....?

Re: blue seal engine
Well here's a thing; with the Minor I bought two days ago came a spare 948cc engine in bits, and the cylinder head is...blue! Interestingly, there is a black sticker, most of which has been torn off, with (I think) advice about installing the engine. So maybe there were reconditioned A-series engines painted blue out there, but not done by BMC but by some other engineering works. Here's the pic;[frame][/frame]

Re: blue seal engine
Hmmm, that's interesting. It's a shame that sticker is damaged as it might reveal more info !!
However, that is definately NOT the blue of the sidevalve motors....
