Ahh - just noticed your rude reply Joe - I find it amazing that after asking for help, and having been given guidance in all good faith, someone could come back so rudely! However - since you have challenged me - can we have some pictures of this 'voltage stabilizer' at the tank please? And - how does it work - has a power wire been run all the way to the tank to run the 'voltage stabilizer' ? Always keen to learn - so here's your chance to teach me (and probably some others) how this works ! As far as I know, no other Minor has a 'voltage stabilizer' at the fuel tank - I think your car must be unique!

Well its back to work once again, all did not function as I wished.My fuel gauge was indicating fuel in the tank, but in the end it left me stuck in the road without fuel. So I think that my conclusion should be that I have to change the Petrol Tank Sender Unit (Float), for the one with a flat top, without a stabaliser, and wireing the speedo in the original way making use of the stabaliser behind it, lets hope all will go for the better

once you have taken the old one out do you want to post a photo of it on this thread so we can see the stabiliser that you are saying that it has..

Well finally today I changed my Petrol Tank Sender Unit and therefor all my problems should be resolved. As you can see the sender on the left has attached to it a 'voltage stabilizer', but the one on the rights does not. Thats because the first one is to be used witha bronze faced speedo (that does not have a 'voltage stabilizer' on the rear, and the second one is to be used witha black faced speedo (that does have a 'voltage stabilizer' on the rear. Now I just have to change the wireing on the speedo and all should be fine.[frame][/frame]

That's not a 'voltage stabiliser'! That's just a rheostat - a variable resistance - and both units have that - but each is designed to be matched to the correct gauge in the speedo. The early cars had 'fast' gauges (bronze) where the needle swings around all the time - later cars have slow gauges (black) - where the gauge is a 'hot wire' instrument - and the needle moves according to how the rheostat in the tank regulates the flow of current. This type of gauge - since very sensitive to voltage - is operated through a 'voltage stabiliser' which is mounted on the rear of the speedo - and feeds a pulsed voltage to the gauge and rheostat circuit - which approximates to 10 volts. I did try to explain all this earlier in the thread, but you were adamant you knew better - I now appreciate there could be a language barrier. Bon chance!

Well however thanks to all of you, to finish this topic, I have rewired my speedo, if by chance somebody notices something wrong with the wireing please let me know, it will be very much appreciated[frame][/frame]

Hard to see the colours completely clearly - but I don't think that green wire should be on the fuel gauge - there should be 3 x green wires all together on the one terminal on the voltage stabiliser.

a bit of clarification just in case..

you currently have two green wires going to your petrol gauge, you only need the short one from the stabiliser..

Which is supposed to be light green - but isn't showing up in the pic any different to the others.

Infact just checked out the wiring diagram and noticed that mistake, as soon as I get back from my vacation in Italy and return to Paris I'll switch those wires and all should be working as normal thanks.

IF it is now the correct type of fuel gauge (ie hot wire) - and a matching sender in the tank - then YES!

Well that should be the end of that, changed the wiring and all is functioning as should be thanks to all
