Hi Doc
I carefully stripped the seat first, as I was re-using the covers, which though faded and a bit grimy looking, are in otherwise sound condition. I replaced the rubber straps, (weaving them together for the seat) and reglued the padding around the base. I bought the new foam base, cutting it to fit round the uprights of the back, and lightly glued it on the frame, ensuring an even overhang of foam. I then refitted the cover, after re-sewing a seam or two. I pulled the front of the cover tight, refitting the rubber tube inside the lower front and side edges, and pulled it taut evenly, finishing off with the spring clips. I used contact adhesive at the back to secure the flaps ov the cover to the frame.
The back was easier, I re-used the horsehair matting, and new straps. I had to sew together the matting where straps had cut through. (I might however get a piece of foam, about 3/4" thick instead, as the straps still dig in to my back a bit.) The cover is then slipped back over, and held in place with spring clips, after again pulling taut. Clip the tail of the front part of cover first, then pull the back taut, and clip it in place. Finally the sides wrap round and clip underneath.
After that, sit back and enjoy the comfort!

Sounds like the Somerset Levels seating threshold is a bit tougher than the rest of usI have just put 1/2 MDF on top of the base instead of the non springy bits. Works a treat!

We have friends that live in Somerset who we visit a couple of times a year and the beer seemed to be fine so I assume you have access to an apple pressMight have something to do with the local brew.
