Yes, the fuel pump will tick slowly while the engine is running as fuel is used.

ok, but sometimes it seems he is doing some catching up and ticks like crazy and then the tikking slows down, car is running well though

Mmmm, now you mention it...so you mean because it is hot, the fuel vaporizes and the pump constanty is busy filling the fuelpipes ?

Yes. Because the pump sucks the fuel up from the tank, you've got a partial vacuum in the supply pipe, which lowers the boiling point of the fuel. In hot weather the engine can sometimes run out of fuel and stop because the pump is only getting vapour.
