phew!!! I think I am ready to do the work again :D

right you are re: threadlock. I've seen those screws that you have and they do look better.

I'll let you know how I get on.

Yes I too have the Allen cap screws - although in the past (in desperate circs) I have used the drum screws - but I tightened them with a hammer drive screwdriver! You don't have to tap any holes - you do have to countersink the two holes for these screws if you are fitting Duplex to an engine that had Simplex before. Easy enough to do - just make sure no swarf goes in the engine, or is left behind. Clean up with a magnet !

Well I've done it! Having only ever changed the oil before I have taken out the engine, swapped the cam, followers and timing gear and re-built the engine. Those little drum screws for the counter sink DO NOT take a lot of torque before feeling decidely close to threading but with a phillips attached to a wrench you can get a fair bit on them - the manual only states 6lb per foot anyway.

I changed the head to a morspeed stage 3 and the cam is a morspeed phase 2.

Anyway, the job has taken 3.5 days and the car started first time :D :D :D :o. I couldn't bl00dy believe it!! Only a little bit of fiddling with the timing and mixture was required to get a much better ride than before. I've done 70 miles and so far no leeking oil.

I don't think I would have managed it without this board so thanks for the help. Rolling road here we come :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

My only question is: is it normal that the duplex chain makes more noise than the simplex one (which had a tensioner)?

:D :D :D

PS: can you tell that I am pleased?

Duplex should be fairly quiet. Any idea what the actual timing and lift on the cam is ?

Hiya, it is 'fairly' quiet but it can be heard on tickover. It's just with the simplex one and tensioner I couldn't hear anything. I was just wondering if it was normal to hear anything at all.

The cam is the morspeed phase II which I believe is a reprofiled kent 286. Whatever they do it makes it run nice and smooth at low revs and apparently Kent Cams have asked Morspeed to bring out a range for them.

Hmmm thats interesting - I wonder how it compares to the Swiftune SW5 which is a similar beast! (and, I believe, made also by Kentcams)

I thought Swiftune were a different company?

I was thinking about the SW5 but Simon persuaded me to go for the Morspeed Phase II (MSPD Fast road) because he said it would give better overall power and feel like it actually has a Cam in it.

That said, I believe the SW5 is supposed to be a great Cam.

Rolling Road booked for Thursday :D

Yeah, swiftune are based in Kent and are one of the top Mini tuners in the country. They developed the SW5 to do a similar thing to the morspeed one, i.e. give good tickover, low revs and great torque in an otherwise quite "cammy" cam :)

Looking forward to hearing your results !!
