Series 2 Items to be restored - Battery Tray and Other Items
The latest item being restored on my late 53 Series 2 is the battery tray.
The old one was somewhat past its best but enough of the original remained for accurate measurements.
I started by making the two hardwood strips
Then added the ply and stained it all with spirit black
The ply is screwed to the hardwood strips with CSK screws.
I'm pleased with how it turned out and will probably make a few spares with the leftover materials.

Looks excellent - If that is the same as the MM lowlight one, I would be interested, alternatively the dimensions would be useful.
Re: Series 2 Items to be restored - Battery Tray
Thanks Firedrake
The part number for my version would be AAA3678 -Tray Wood... it finished around Car No.s 419584 - 430034 depending on model.
You could check the MM series parts list if you have one?
On mine the side bars are just over 3/4" wide x 1/2" and 6 1/2" long (They may have varied during production). You can measure the hole centres in your metal battery housing for the other dimensions but my holes are 10 7/8" x 5" CRS and the ply is just short of the large grommet at the rear

Many thanks, that is hugely useful.
Re: Series 2 Items to be restored - Battery Tray
The plated brass screwcups arrived and are now fitted under the rear 2BA CSK screws.
They look great are correct items (Pt.7722/FWP610) and stop leakage into the cab!
I needed two for my cars and have made a few spares that I will take to next years National members jumble with some left over S2 parts
Brass axle clips next!

Just overhauled my S2 wiper motor... It was missing the top cover but someone on FB helped out with a period replacement.
It needed a strip down and clean up of the carbon brushes and clean and reoil/grease of the bearings and now runs and works smoothly.

The brass sheet arrived today for new brake pipe axle clips.
I need to mark out carefully before cutting out
I intend make a couple of pairs so I can use them on the traveller too. I know I can use a black plastic cable tie but it dosent look right somehow.

Not exactly the same design as the ones you are making, but the Minor ones were referenced ACA5375taupe wrote: ↑Sat Oct 31, 2026 9:30 am The brass sheet arrived today for new brake pipe axle clips.

And a very similar ACH8650

ESM also have them, but without referencing to any BMC part numbers, as is often the case.

Thanks yes I saw the A Healey ones which the supplier has given the same part number as the original Minor ones like mine pictured (ACA5375) and they probably do the same job but similarly dont look right somehow. MGBs had a terne coated steel version - you dont see that finish much any more I guess as the tin is expensive hence Bee Hive have made them in brass. You can still buy the cable clips from the original Birmingham supplier but they dont have the tooling for ones long enough for the minor axle...https://www.saren.co.uk/prices.html

Re: Series 2 Items to be restored - Battery Tray and Other Items
Yes Thanks.... those look reasonably ok and are very similar but not identical shape ...I wonder if they are long enough?
They are probably the Saren ones I had already found which are around 1.1/2" too short but if You want to use them you could join two together I suppose?
My two pairs will take very little time to fettle and I have enough 0.6mm brass to do four pairs for just over 1/2 that price too.

That is dedication. I have to confess my brake pipes are held on to the axle with cable ties. I have never known anybody look under my car to check!
