IIRC, on mine I just fitted the later cover. The rear end of the tunnel wasn't affected.
The engine floor needed a bit of a trim to accommodate the cylinder oil filter (versus the original - and arguably better/easier - spin-on).
Engine identification please.

Re: Engine identification please.
I assume we're going through these questions because the paperwork still says 803.
That's either a 948 or 1098 gearbox but you'll need to look at the outside to see if it's the smooth or ribbed (stronger) case of the 1098.
Just shine a torch down past the exhaust and you'll be able to see which.
Just because we have settled on the engine being 1098 doesn't guarantee whomever did that got the right gearbox.
A PO of my car fitted a 1098 when they thought they were fitting a 948....

Re: Engine identification please.
What we can tell is that the floor has been chopped to fit the later gearbox tunnel to accommodate the later remote change mechanism. Fairly typical conversion and often seen in these SII cars. The later handbrake lever has also been fitted, although they retained the 803 gearknob on the later gear lever. Pic shown previously suggests that it is a 1098 box.

Re: Engine identification please.
I had to fit the later type handbrake lever as the front of the (longer) SII lever fouled the relocated gear lever. One of those things you don't realise till towards the end of the job!myoldjalopy wrote: ↑Mon Oct 05, 2026 9:48 am What we can tell is that the floor has been chopped to fit the later gearbox tunnel to accommodate the later remote change mechanism. Re: Engine identification please.
Thanks all for the information. Been so busy haven’t had a chance to do anything to it yet. Just another quick one I’m going to strip, clean and rebuild the carb. It’s the HS2 carb i have in mine right? Thank you again for all the information, appreciated it. Henry.
