Does anyone remember these special material brake pads?

Post by Chief »

Because of my current issues with the brakes, I was thinking about the Minors' brake system and I suddenly, though vaguely, remembered a TV program I watched many years ago, featuring a Morris Minor.

Whatever the program was, it was recommending a specific type of brake pad by a specific company, which had been proven to give the same stopping performance / distance to stop, on the standard drums as if the car had a disc brake conversion fitted.

I also recall that when I looked the company up, they had already gone bankrupt.

I wondered if anyone knew if there were still such pads available by other manufacturers, all I can remember is that it was the material they were using on the brake pads was the real reason for better stopping power.

So, just curious if this were still a thing.

I'd use the word "shoes" when searching/enquiring, rather than "pads".

I do dimly remember something about this from a long time ago.

The problem is, the brake shoes can have wonder material linings but the braking can only ever be as good as the tyres maintaining grip on the road. Once the braking is good enough to lock the wheel and the tyre starts to slide, there is no advantage at all in better brake linings.
