Are all half shafts the same?

I believe the Series MM and early Series 2 are different to the Series 3 and 5 (there was no Series 4)

All the Minor 1000 ones are the same regardless of 948cc or 1098cc.


If second hand it is very important to know whether it was used on the Left-hand side or Right-hand side. The is due to the fact that the shaft is getting twisted in one direction all the time the car is been driven forwards. If the half shaft is taken off the car and is swapped sides, it is then twisting in the other direction when the car is going forwards. This can cause the half-shaft to snap.


Competition half shafts are available which are made of high-tensile steel. They are very expensive, sold in pairs but are much stronger.
