Re: Engine issue
I am going to say it is a 1275cc Marina engine as it has the Marina engine mount bolts and the oil filter above and to the rear of the distributer. It is not a 'A' Plus engine as it does not have the ribbing to the block.

Re: Engine issue
Difficult to say from the photo but that looks more like antifreeze than oil. Is the water level ok ?Classiccars wrote: ↑Sun Apr 30, 2023 4:06 pmClassiccars wrote: ↑Sun Apr 30, 2023 4:05 pm This one shows the leak at the head.Very slight and seems to burn off so I don't think it is affecting the clutch

Re: Engine issue
Thanks gents.Yes I think it looks like antifreeze as well.Very slight so l don't think affecting the clutch.I agree with Phil on the marina engine. On that basis is it possible to advise a rear oil seal and clutch for her.If there was historical oil in the clutch would I be advised to change the bearing as well. Will first get the leak at the clutch piston looked at as I don't know bit could that affect the clutch if it is leaking please.

Re: Engine issue
Thanks.Going back to the picture if rhe piston type item that may be leaking.I guess this is to do with the clutch. If it is leaking would this make the clutch slip. Can you advise what it is and how ti rectify if it could be the problem.Just wondering before the whole vlutch comes out thank you.

Re: Engine issue
The leaking part is the clutch slave cylinder.
A leaking clutch slave cylinder will not make the clutch slip.
I would replace the slave cylinder and not bother trying to repair it.
The slave cylinder off a MG Midget is the one to use. A classic Mini slave cylinder will fit as well but make sure that you get the right one.

Re: Engine issue
Thank you Phil I will wipe it off and give it some use to know gor sure if that is the leak area and not coming from elsewhere. Can you PLEASE advise a seal for the back of the engine.Possobly where the oil is getting to the clutch. And what clutch to purchase as well.Unsure if I need a clutch bearing could the oil get on there as well .
Re: Engine issue
Phil is your best man with this but I must say the engine rebuilder wouldn’t get my vote, considering the issues you have. Even the two fixings for the slave cylinder are not the same, which would set alarm bells ringing for me. I think you should clean the whole engine down and dry, then run for a day or so, then you should be able to pinpoint all the leaks and go from there. Good luck.

Re: Engine issue
Thanks Les will wait on Phils advise now on what to order. To be fair the chap did advise it was possible that there may be oil on the vlutch but could not see anything for certain and the clutch was still worth keeping as little used. Not the case now.The small anti freeze leak only came to notice after we drove a few miles but perhaps he did not look hard enough.

Re: Engine issue
There is no seal for the rear of the crankshaft. The standard Marina set up is a return scroll which winds oil back into the crankcase. If the main bearings are worn the efficiency of the return scroll is considerably reduced and may be ineffective.
As regards the clutch - I would do nothing until the clutch is stripped out.
The clutch assy could be one of several variations - so to save any heartache strip the clutch and see what is fitted and go from there.

Re: Engine issue
Further to what PTH says, any oil (unless it is a ‘flood’) will be onto the back of the flywheel from whence it will be centrifuged from the rear outermost edge to the bell-housing surface from where it drain to the lowest point and should then eventually leak from the drain hole with jiggle pin. My past experience is that of no clutch plate contamination taking place. YMMV.

Thank you.Can you advise any other reason I may slip
Re: Engine issue
Worn plate, oil, adjustment all can cause slip but previous posts have mainly dismissed these, so the advice to strip and inspect sounds to be the next step. You’ll then be sure of what clutch you’re dealing with, and hopefully see the probable fault. At the moment it’s all guesswork.

You noted, on the concurrent thread, that there was some uncertainty of the actual components in this power train. It may well be that the clutch fitted is also of inappropriate dimensions (or type) to transmit the torque available?
