Engine identification plate

Post by Alex Macmillan »

My Traveller had a Marina 1275 engine fitted when I bought it 6 months ago. I have noticed that the engine identification plate is missing, although I do know the number from paperwork. Is there a way that a new plate can be obtained, stamped with the correct number for installation?

Yes, and here is a link to obtain a new engine number plate and having it stamped with the correct engine number.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/392884038867 ... R_C-sI7xYA

Here are the two rivets required to hold the plate in place.

You may have to drill two new holes as the original rivets are very hard and near impossible to drill out,

blimey £42 for a small strip of alloy with a few numbers stamped in it, you can get letter stamp kits for a tenner on ebay!

For a tenner you can purchase punches that give an indented number/letter in the plate but the numbers/letters on a BMC engine number plate are raised and the reverse punches that enable the numbers/letters to be raised when stamped from underside of the plate cost money.
You can get front stamped engine number plates for less https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/113947803759 ... R4L_wpjxYA but that is not how the engine number plate was produced by the BMC factory.

£42.00 is a mad price. I don't know why anybody would assume that ebay is the best source of anything......It generally seems full of very expensive "middle men" and chancers to me and there are usually much cheaper solutions if you spend a little while looking. I doubt the ebay seller even makes these plates himself. He probably orders them from Tim Harber at Minimail in Gloucestershire who'll sell them to you for about £20.00. Just google Minimail and look at his website  He's well established and highly thought of in Mini circles.
