Trying to find 948 thermostat housing with temp sender

Post by rio678 »

Hi everyone

Does anyone know where I can get a thermostat housing for the 948 engine which has a tapped hole for a temperature sender ? Would prefer to try and find one than going down the bottom hose mod

No longer available.

You may be able to find a NOS item or a good S/H item but very hard to find now.

There were two types of thermostat housing - one with the transmitter fitting in the top and one with the transmitter fitting in the side Pt No: 12A408. Both types work well.

Dependent upon what temp gauge transmitter you use you could use a modified Marina thermostat housing with modified brass filler plug.

Here is one modified by Sandun:-

Or you could cut the top hose and insert a alloy hose adapter into which the transmitter screws.

Another solution is to obtain a thermostat housing of the type in the link below and re-drill and tap the transmitter hole:-

Note:- not all thermostat housings advertised as 12G103 are the same.

Yes the thermostat housing is off a Marina.

The lower part is fitted because the very late 940 head does not have the facility to fit a thermostat.
The water pump is driving the alternator via a toothed belt.
If you are wondering where the radiator is - it is under the boot.
