Mike: That isn't the measurement I had in mind (sorry if I wasn't clear enough), but I think with the photos and measurements you have kindly provided, Declan probably has enough data now.

Declan: Do you have all the measurements you need?

Don,
Thanks a million. I think I have everything I need. If the aperture dimension 78.61mm is true, then I have found a small "pudding bowl" that will fit the aperture perfectly. The bezel and the glass also fit perfectly. It is just a tad too deep but that is easily solved. I will make a 3D housing and compare the results.
That leaves several options open. Either I fit the 40x8mm round quartz movement or the Ford stepper motor which is even smaller and runs off the car battery. The screenshot shows both the 3D printed and the pudding bowl versions with Mike's dimensions. The mounting bracket is only a draft at the moment. Thanks again for all your help-much appreciated!. Any further suggestions welcome.

Yes, Germany is correct and I would cover the cost of the return postage if I can't find someone over here. Our postage is actually quite cheap compared to most countries and I have contacted the MMRD (Morris Minor Register Deutschland) and will wait and see what comes of it. I could post such a clock cheaper to e.g. New Zealand than UK, Holland (which is nearly walking distance!-though not for me) or any other EU country. Sending it back from say New Zealand, Oz or USA would break the bank.

Here's the photos of the finished clock. I received the printed dials on Christmas eve.I just have to find out if it fits as planned. It is easy to make adjustments to a 3D printed housing. I am quite happy with the way it has turned out so far. I just have to make the u shaped fixing bracket.

It might but I think the people that this will appeal to will want one that looks original when in place.
Though you could slip one in and see if anyone notices..............
Of course a reproduction 'Smiths' car clock stamped up 'Made in Germany' could be said to be a sad sign of the times we live in......... :(

I'll try to find some better pics. Mine was 'made' in the same way as yours but based on an original owned by Carlo P.

I posted the designs on here a while ago but found that someone had copied the designs and was freely selling them on the inetrnet. NOT COOL! The drawing work was done by Gryf Ketcherside in the US. Very generous bloke.

Thanks to a tip from Don I managed to win the auction for an original glove box door on eBay so I won't have to send the clock to somebody to test fit it.

I agree with you. Copying someone else's designs and selling them freely on the internet is not the done thing but that is the world we live in and it won't be getting any better. I made the housing to fit around the quartz movement, the bezel and the glass. Then I made the dial to fit the housing. At least a 3D modelled housing is not that easy to copy and it took quite a few test prints to get it all to fit. I certainly will not be selling them freely on the internet. Like the MG clocks that I do I have only ever made them for fellow enthusiasts.
