Bonnet Hinges

I've got a hinge with perfectly good chrome but the base part where it mounts to the body is broken. On another vehicle, I have another hinge with not so good chrome but an ok base part?

Can I drive the pin out which connects them and make one good one? (have it out of my good chrome part but the pin was broken)
If so is there a certian direction (taper) and method?
Is there an easy way to get the hinge off the vehicle without taking the glovebox liner out?

You could attempt to make one good hinge out of two broken ones, I suppose. If they're broken, the worst that could happen is that you'll need a new one ~ and that's the case anyway!

I think the gloveboxes will have to come out, though.

i have a pretty good one if you want it for a drink!!!!
it is the drivers side not sure if that is the one you want.

Hmmm - na we'll call the deal off simply for the fact that its the passengers side I need.

I'll actually be closer to you guys in a few months - but not UK - Scandi. You got me thinking tho. (Not on hinges this time)

In answer to your question re hinge pins....they only come out one
way because one end is splined to stop the pin revolving in its
housing. There is no taper.

Ok any idea which way? Towards the outside of the vehicle? Inside?

My car is not consistent,i.e. the boot hinge pin comes out towards
the middle of the car whereas the bonnet hinge comes out away
from the middle! If you look carefully at the hinges you can see
the slight signs of the spline. Then again ,all you have to do is
tap the pin with a flat ended punch,you will soon find which way
is 'out'.

I've just come back from the shed after trying out this hinge thing. I took the other hinge off earlier in the day (I did take the glovebox liner out). I could hardly detect the splined end but gave it a guess and the pin went out towards the centre of the vehicle then I cleaned up both bits and put the pin in with the good chrome. All very easy and under ½hr with cleaning etc. Now I have two hinges with almost perfect chrome at no extra expense
