Juddering in reverse

Post by trabant »

Ok so the car goes forward that's grand put it in reverse and I judders and I mean judders like the body's trying leap off the suspension. Thus far brakes ruled out nothings sticking.

The clutch spigot bearing in the end of the crankshaft is a good souce of clutch judder, mine was very noticeable in reverse and over last winters rebuild found it to be very worn. It got a new clutch as well while I was there, but the judder has gone.

Could also be the clutch or flywheel warped but go for the above first, whatever not a 5 minute fix.

A good chance the gearbox stabiliser wire has broken, that would show those symptoms.

Right gearbox cable is fine I honestly don't think it's drive train related it's the front suspension that seems to shake like hell it doesn't have an engine steady and never has .

Check the propshaft universal joints too, if the engine mounts are failing the juddering could have an impact on the uv joints.
